Massachusetts has proposed removing GLP-1 weight-loss coverage from MassHealth.
The governor’s proposed fiscal 2028 budget would not fund MassHealth to cover GLP-1 medications for weight loss alone, though the state would continue covering them for diabetes and other conditions. The legislature was still debating the budget as of April 2026. Everything below is sourced — we are not going to tell you what a Massachusetts clinic charges, because every provider we track is 50-state telehealth and prices the same wherever you live. What actually differs by state is coverage, and that is what this page is about.

Massachusetts is a live decision rather than a settled one, which makes it different from every other page here. Coverage currently exists; a proposal to end it is in front of the legislature. What to do in Massachusetts: If you qualify today, start the conversation with your prescriber now rather than waiting. If the proposal passes, the diabetes and other-condition routes remain funded.
Coverage for type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease and sleep apnea is mandatory everywhere, so a refusal framed around weight loss is not the end of it — and on Medicare, the $50 programme starts 1 July 2026 regardless of which state you are in.
Paying cash in Massachusetts

Has Massachusetts actually cut coverage?
Not as of the April 2026 reporting. The governor proposed not funding weight-loss coverage in the fiscal 2028 budget and the legislature was still debating it. Coverage for diabetes and other conditions was proposed to continue either way.
Should I wait to see what happens?
Waiting is the one option with a clear downside. If you are eligible under current rules, acting now is lower risk than assuming a proposal will fail.
